4,800m stone shelter with real beds (not just tents). I was surprised. Hot food, hot tea, prayer flags fluttering outside. The next morning we crossed the pass.

Cherta High Camp
The highest shelter on the circuit — a cluster of traditional tents and a semi-permanent stone structure near the Cherta Pass.
About this shelter
Cherta High Camp is as basic as it gets — and that is exactly the point. Set in the lee of the Cherta Pass, the camp consists of traditional yak-hair tents and a small stone hut that the herders use during the brief summer window.
The camp exists for one reason: to give trekkers a base for attempting the 5,100m pass crossing. Most people stay one night, summiting early the next morning to catch the weather window. Stars here are the kind you remember for years.
This is not a destination for casual visitors. The altitude is real, the weather can turn fast, and the shelter has none of the comforts of the lower camps. Come prepared, and come with a guide.

What travelers say
This is base camp territory. Achuo knew exactly when to push for the pass — rested here 2 nights to acclimatize. Smart pacing saved us.
