Stay
Mountain Shelters
Not hotels. Not guesthouses. Traditional Tibetan highland homes — winter and summer pastures — where herders have sheltered for generations. Now opened to respectful travelers who understand that comfort means warmth, a good meal, and a genuine connection.
Galuo Summer Shelter
A traditional stone-and-wood structure sitting on a high meadow overlooking the valley. Sleeps 8 in shared rooms. Traditional Tibetan meals prepared by the herder family. Hot water from a wood-fired boiler.
Jihu Lake Refuge
Near the sacred alpine lake Jihu, this shelter is the end point for most treks in the region. Simple but warm, with breathtaking views of the lake at dawn. Best reached on foot — the final approach is part of the journey.
Cherta High Camp
The highest shelter on the circuit — a cluster of traditional tents and a semi-permanent stone structure near the Cherta Pass. For trekkers attempting the 5,100m crossing. Basic supplies, incredible stars.
Tashi's Family Homestay
In the village of Manigango proper, Tashi's family has been hosting travelers for over a decade. Private room, home-cooked Tibetan food, and the kind of warmth that can't be booked. The best place to start or end a trek.
